Jeff Blumberg is a partner concentrating in investment management law and a member of the firm's Corporate and Securities practice group, where he provides counsel regarding regulatory, organizational, structural and business matters for a variety of registered and unregistered money managers, including hedge fund managers, investment advisers, broker-dealers, commodity trading advisors and commodity pool operators.
Hedge Funds. Jeff represents and advises sponsors of unregistered investment funds (i.e., hedge funds), organized both in the United States and offshore, in their daily operations as well as their planning, funding and structuring strategies, including fund documentation and agreements.
Investment Advisers. Jeff also counsels investment advisers in their organization and day-to-day operations, and a range of other matters including mergers & acquisitions, regulatory and compliance issues such as SEC investigations and inspections, compliance policies and procedures, contract reviews, advertising, soft dollars, trade allocation and valuation of securities.
Prior to joining FHSLC, Jeff was a partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP in their Investment Management practice group. Prior to joining Drinker Biddle, Jeff spent seven years working in the financial services industry with one of the largest independent financial services firms in the Chicagoland area. He was a registered principal for the firm's broker-dealer branch office and acted as the internal compliance officer for both the broker-dealer branch office and the firm's wholly owned registered investment adviser. Jeff also oversaw the firm's technology infrastructure and provided advanced marketing support for the firm's sales force in the areas of business succession and planning, executive compensation, retirement planning and estate planning.
Jeff has also been a guest lecturer at Northwestern School of Law and a speaker at industry conferences on topics relating to hedge funds and registered investment advisers. In 2007, Jeffrey was named one of "40 Illinois Lawyers Under 40 to Watch" by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.
Jeff received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, with high honors, in 2000, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. He received his B.A. from Stanford University in 1991.
